How Telehealth can help you?
Access to care is a major factor for people to seek counseling services. Telehealth is a solution. Countless studies have shown this model of care produces the same results as the in-person care. It offers flexibility in scheduling. You don’t have to drive in traffic to get to your appointment. You can take your lunch time to talk to your counselor. And most insurance currently pay for this service. Call us to confirm your policy.
Client who will benefit from online counseling
- Individuals with anxiety disorders, depression, trauma, agoraphobia. These issues can be paralyzing and having to go to the therapist office can be an extra struggle, if not an obstacle on receiving services. Although getting out of the house will be beneficial for you, you know that at this moment you are not physically or emotionally ready. Telehealth is right for you.
- Home-bound clients. If unable to drive for any reason, you can still get the counseling support you need. If medical condition is the source of distress, having a counselor to talk will benefit you tremendously.
- Professional. You work long hours and have countless meetings. Use your time wisely, no seating in traffic going to therapy. You can get your empowering session before your meeting. Discuss interpersonal issues with coworkers-employees blocks that hinder your growth as a professional, or for personal issues.
- Stigma. If you feel you will be judged by family or community due to the stigma associated with mental health. You don’t have to wait until symptoms are unbearable or have a crisis to get the support needed.
Considerations
- Privacy. Select a space for your online therapy sessions that is private and free of distractions. You want to make sure that no one else can hear your conversation with your therapist. Your therapist will also ensure the same.
- Minimize noise level/distractions. Make sure you are in an environment that is conductive to the session as if you were in an in-person session. Close doors and use ear phones if needed.
- You will require a computer or smart phone with high-speed internet and a video camera to allow interactive conversations.
- The same as with in-person services, you need to find the right therapist for you. We have specialists in different areas, so contact us to discuss.
What can I do to improve the quality of the connection?
If you live in an area with slow internet, this can really affect the speed of your connection. Here are some basic steps that can improve the overall quality:
- Use wired Ethernet instead of wifi whenever possible. Wifi will work, but you may experience a lag and interference, which can make your video and audio choppy. If you experience a lag or interference while using Wifi, we recommend moving closer to your router. However, wired internet will give you a much smoother, more consistent experience.
- Test your internet connection speed. Google provides an easy way to test your internet connection directly from the google homepage. Simply search: internet speed test. Click the blue button that says Run Speed Test. If it is under 10mbps and you’re using wifi, try using a wired internet connection or restarting your router.
- Close other programs. If you have several programs running in the background, closing them will almost certainly improve the quality. Also, make sure you’re not downloading any large files.
If you are unable to connect, please contact me as soon as possible to see if I can help you troubleshoot.
